Project Overview
The City of Minot is advancing improvements to 16th St SW from Burdick Expy to 2nd Ave SW as part of the broader 16th Street Reconstruction Project. The corridor was split into two segments for environmental evaluation, design, and construction:
These improvements were identified to address roadway, safety, and infrastructure needs along the 16th Street SW corridor, including:
- Replacement of asphalt pavement with new concrete pavement from 14th Ave SW to Burdick Expressway and from 7th Ave SW to 5th Ave SW. (Completed as part of the South Project.)
- Reconstruction of the Burdick Expressway intersection with new concrete pavement.(Completed as part of the South Project.)
- Spot repairs to existing concrete pavement from Burdick Expressway to 7th Ave SW and from 5th Ave SW to 2nd Ave SW.
- Evaluation of lane configurations, roadway geometry, and corridor traffic operations to improve safety and mobility.
- Upgrades to pedestrian and bicycle facilities throughout the corridor.
Where We Are Today
The South Project was successfully completed in 2025 and received industry recognition for excellence in concrete construction. The City is now focused on advancing the North Project through final planning, public engagement, and design activities.

The North Project represents the next phase of improvements along 16th Street SW between Burdick Expressway and 2nd Avenue SW.

The City of Minot’s 16th Street SW project was selected as a
2025 Gold Star Award winner in the Street Paving category by the North Dakota Ready Mix & Concrete Products Association and the North Dakota Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association, recognizing excellence in concrete construction. This annual award reflects the project’s innovation and quality and celebrates the teamwork of the City of Minot and its project partners.
