The 6 alternatives for the North project are listed below.  4 of these were presented at the November 2023 public meeting.  Since that time, the team has added Option 3 and Option 4 as new alternatives.  Please email any comments you have on these alternatives to matt.kinsella@apexenggroup.com.  No decisions will be made on the north project until a later date (TBD).

Alternatives

Alternative A – No Build 

  • This is the non-preferred alternative as it does not address the project Purpose and Need. 
  • Estimated Cost $0

Alternative B

  • Full reconstruction from north side of 7th Ave SW to north side of 5th Ave SW 
  • Concrete pavement repairs and new pavement marking from Burdick Expwy to 7th Ave SW and from 5th Ave SW to 2nd Ave SW 
  • 5th Ave SW and 7th Ave SW reconstructed to full access (same configuration as existing) 
  • Reconstructed 3 Lane – 48’ wide concrete pavement including gutter pan 
    • 2 – 11’ wide thru lanes, 1 – 13’ center left turn lane, 2 – 4.5’ bike lanes and 2’ gutter pan each side 
  • New transition speed zone (30 MPH) from Burdick Expwy to 7th Ave SW 
  • Turn lane recommendations from the Traffic Operations Report 
  • Minimum 5’ wide sidewalk/ADA ramps both side of the road (width varies) 
  • New Traffic Signal System at 2nd Ave SW 
  • New lighting on 16th St SW 
  • New storm sewer trunk line 
  • New city utilities as required 
  • Estimated Cost $10,823,100
 

Alternative B + Option 1

  • Same improvements as listed above for Alternative B, except: 
  • Convert 5th Ave SW to ¾ access, 7th Ave SW no change 
  • Estimated Cost $10,820,800
  • Same improvements as listed above for Alternative B, except: 
  • Convert 5th Ave SW to ¾ access, 7th Ave SW to roundabout 
  • Estimated Cost $11,661,600
 

Alternative B + Option 3

  • Same improvements as listed above for Alternative B, except: 
  • Convert 5th Ave SW to roundabout, 7th Ave SW no change 
  • Reconstructed 3 Lane – 39’ wide concrete pavement including gutter pan 
    • 2 – 11’ wide thru lanes, 1 – 13’ center left turn lane, and 2’ gutter pan each side 
  • 10’ wide shared use path on one side of the road
  • Estimated Cost $11,657,400

Alternative B + Option 4


Same improvements as listed above for Alternative B, except: 
  • Convert 5th Ave SW to roundabout, 7th Ave SW to roundabout 
  • Reconstructed 3 Lane – 39’ wide concrete pavement including gutter pan 
    • 2 – 11’ wide thru lanes, 1 – 13’ center left turn lane, and 2’ gutter pan each side 
  • 10’ wide shared use path on one side of the road
  • Estimated Cost $12,354,500
