Construction Updates

SEPTEMBER 22, 2025

Another milestone is set to take effect this week as construction crews reopen the intersection of 16th Street and 11th Avenue SW to full traffic on Wednesday, September 24. This also restores through access along 16th Street from East Burdick Expressway to 11th Avenue SW, reconnecting key routes for drivers, residents, and businesses in southwest Minot. The temporary traffic signal will remain in place until November.  Brief intermittent lane closures in the 11th Avenue SW intersection may be required in November, to allow installation of the permanent signal system.

While the reopening will improve mobility in the area, 16th Street remains closed south of 11th Avenue SW through mid-October. Crews continue making long-term improvements to that stretch of the corridor, including utility upgrades, roadbed stabilization, and paving.

AUGUST 12, 2025

16th Street/11th Avenue SW Intersection Opening Delayed
Due to unforeseen construction delays, the intersection of 16th Street and 11th Avenue SW, along with the connecting stretch of 16th Street north to Burdick Expressway, will not reopen to traffic by the start of the school year on August 20 as previously planned.

We recognize this impacts school transportation, particularly for families, staff, and buses accessing Minot High School – Magic City Campus and surrounding neighborhoods. The project team is working closely with the City of Minot and Minot Public Schools to communicate this change and help minimize disruption. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible. The public is also urged to slow down and exercise caution near construction zones to ensure the safety of both crews and the public.

In the meantime, the 16th Street/Burdick Expressway intersection and all access points to Minot High School remain open. Another update will be issued once the new reopening date for the 11th Avenue SW intersection and the stretch of 16th Street to Burdick is confirmed.

May 15, 2025

Drivers in southwest Minot should prepare for some traffic changes starting Tuesday, May 27, as construction kicks off on the 16th Street Reconstruction Project. Portions of 16th Street and Burdick Expressway will be closed to allow crews to begin pavement removal, storm sewer work, and paving. Refer to the enclosed map for details on road closure locations and intersections that will remain open.

A temporary connection will be installed between Cook Drive and 18th Street, to serve as neighborhood-only access during construction for residents in the neighborhoods west of 16th Street and south of 14th Avenue SW. This temporary connection will be removed when the project is complete. Access to businesses and neighborhoods east of 16th Street will be from nearby side streets.
